What is colour symbolism?
Colour symbolism is the meaning that's associated with a certain colour. A colour can have more than one colour symbolism attached to it depending on what context it's used in and where about in the world it's being used. Colours can also be used to represent celebrations (Such as red and green being for Christmas).
Examples of colour symbolism
Red can be associated with a number of different things. For example, it can be associated with love/passion (Red is often used in other countries on a wedding dress). Also red can be associated with danger. Many 'STOP' signs (Such as a red traffic light) or warning signs are red, indicating there's something dangerous ahead. This is often used as red is such a eye catching colour. The colour red can also be associated with negative things, such as heat (Fire) and war (Due to red being the same colour as blood). Finally, red is often associated with strong emotions (Such as passion and aggression).
Blue is often associated with water, and the element water is often associated with purity and life. Also blue can also symbolise; calm, stability, coldness and depression. The colour blue is also an appetite suppressant. Due to blue being a symbolism for depression and also is know to calm people, it is often used in therapy, in order to calm people down due to it being able to lower people's blood pressure.
